Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning 2000 film "Gladiator" – starring Russell Crowe in arguably his best role to date – was matched for power and impact by Hans Zimmer's iconic soundtrack. Enhanced by the haunting voice of Australian vocalist and composer Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), the soundtrack enjoyed enormous commercial success – in a large part thanks to one of Zimmer's most beautiful melodies "Now We Are Free" – and would go on to sell over three million units worldwide.
