Originally released in 1996, Le Onde was Ludovico Einaudi's first solo piano album and first big success. The album is inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel The Waves. Einaudi writes that he was "really intrigued by the form of the novel, which is very complex and interesting because some parts are written in italics and others in normal text. The parts in italics are like a cadence running through the book." The piece is divided into parts, each repeated until the coda brings it all to a close. The hypnotic melody flows and surges depicting the movements of the ocean. Available now as a 2 LP 180g vinyl edition.
